5 Quick Ways to Reset Your Mind & Mood
Hey Friend, let’s talk…
Have you ever had one of those days where your brain feels like a browser with 35 tabs open – except none of them are loading properly? Yep. Same.
Life gets lifey, and sometimes you just need a quick reset before you spiral into a stress puddle. That’s where this ThriveWell Toolkit comes in. I’ve spoken to wellness experts and practitioners who have come up with these five super-simple mood-boosters that will really help you hit the reset button – no overthinking required.
Let’s get you feeling good again.
❋
The Brain Dump: Clear the Mental Clutter
Overthinking everything? Grab a journal (or your Notes app) and spill it all out – messy, unfiltered, no judgment. Then, ask yourself:
What’s one small thing I can do about this today?
Even the tiniest action beats sitting in analysis paralysis. J.R.R Tolkien once said: “Little by little, one travels far”. It’s the small steps that count.
❋
The 10-Second Gratitude Reset
Stress loves to make you forget all the good things. Take 10 seconds to list 3 things you’re grateful for right now. Big or small, it all counts. Here’s my list as an example:
A fact that coffee exists
A text from someone I love
The way my playlist hits just right.
Gratitude is a cheat code for shifting your mood fast.
❋
5-4-3-2-1 Grounding: Get Out of Your Head
Mindfulness is the practice of staying in the now. Easier said than done, I know. But when anxiety starts pulling you into the land of “what-ifs”, pull yourself back with this trick that brings you into the present and what you can control:
Name 5 things you can see
Name 4 things you can hear
Name 2 things you can smell
Name 1 thing you can taste
This snaps you back to the now – where your power actually is.
❋
Box Breathing: Your Instant Calm Button
I love this one. When I first learned about it, it was so easy to implement that when I had my next visit to the GP and I saw a needle, I used it right then and there. Needless to say, it actually worked at creating a calmer outlook. So when your mind is running a marathon, your breath can slow it down.
Try this:
Inhale for 4 seconds → Hold for 4 seconds → Exhale for 4 seconds → Hold for 4 seconds
Repeat 3-5 times. Feel the shift? Thought so.
❋
Move it, Shake it, Dance it Out
This is another one I love. Energy needs somewhere to go, right?! Play your favourite song and shake it out for at least 30 seconds (yes, even if you feel silly).
Feeling extra stuck? Try these:
Walk outside for fresh air
Stretch like a cat waking up from a nap
Jump up and down like you just won the lottery
Movement will reduce the stress hormone, cortisol, allowing you to better handle any stressors that come your way. Your body will thank you.
